UNC Asian American Center & The Process Series
October 2022
Chapel Hill, NC
Plural of Me is a multidisciplinary and multisensory performance that combines oral histories, music composed by Asian American female composers, and visual arts to portray Asian American women beyond the usual stereotypes and tropes. Race and gender have collectively influenced AAPI women’s lived experiences and the identities ascribed to them. These dichotomous views create dangerous narratives where AAPI women lose their individuality and are then objectified, foreignized, and dehumanized. Plural of Me seeks to show AAPI women as they are and move us away from being victims of hate to owners of our own narratives.
